Diagnosed CM1 April 2011, decompression surgery on 25th October 2012. Second surgery to fix pseudomeningocele 20th December 2012. LP shunt fitted 10th January 2013 and removed 7th february 2013.

You go into a hall cupboard for the milk for the coffee you're making and are annoyed to find it isn't there, and only when you walk back into the kitchen and look around blankly wondering why it isn't that you then realise that you were looking in the hall cupboard, not in the refrigerator like you should have been....

Or my personal favourite... arguing with my wife for 20 minutes over a point that she was making only to realise that I was basically making the same point in my head..... so I ultimately came to the same point in the end, which just annoyed her even further... all I can say is thank god for chocolate, it heals all wounds... o.O

Decompression was done on 23rd Jan 2012 at Newcastle RVI under Mr Bhattathiri, Duraplasty removed under Ms Brown at Southern General (SGH), Glasgow 19th March 2012. Shunt inserted 30th May 2012 under Ms Campbell at SGH (in Ms Brown's absence)

You know you have Chiari when...you try to spell chair and have to do a double-take to make sure you haven't written Chiari (or vice versa).


You know you have Chiari when...you can think of all the synonyms for a word but the one you want to use! Human thesaurus!


And, you know you have Chiari (especially as a university student) when you're covered in unexplained bruises and none of them are alcohol induced
